12pm update of Round 2 matches:
Two men’s pairs teams moved to 2 wins from 2; Ray Martin/Robert Gray, and Laurie Guy/Frazer MacDiarmid.
It was a little bit of luck that nudged Laurie’s pair over the line against Ben & Ian. In the extra end after Ian had drawn two shots, Laurie played a run shot that was well wide, but wick’d off a short bowl to take the kitty near the ditch with him lying shot. An unfortunate way for Ben & Ian to be knocked out of the competition.
In other games, Ray knocked out Robbie & Sid. Roy/Graham beat Goz/Marcus, and Rangi and Rhys gave the defending champs Richie & James a scare. The defending champs needed the win here to stay alive and were only 2 shots ahead with 2 to play. A classy shot by James in the second to last end to pick up a couple gave them a comfortable lead on the last end which they held on to.
2pm update of Round 3 matches:
Guy/MacDiarmid and Martin/Gray have both qualified, going 3 wins from 3. Martin with a 1 point won over King, and Guy beating Bennett/Roddick. Rangi & Rhys were knocked out by Roy & Graham. Last year’s winners after a close escape this morning, had a big win over the Ruane’s
5pm update of final qualifying matches:
Out in the rain, two matches needed to play in the final round to see who the last qualifiers were.
Roy Gibb and Graham Goudge needed a win against Robbie Bennett and Sid Roddick, who had swapped their order around. It wend all the way to an extra end and Roy’s pair got the win.
It’s goodbye to the defending champs as James Fairhall and Richard Corry went down to Ben King and Ian McLeod. Ben and Ian weren’t going to lie down for another loss even though they were knocked out, and jumped ahead to a huge early lead, then never looked back.
