Congratulations to Kay Carr and Leigh Griffin winning the Wellington Open Pairs title at Hutt today. Kay and Leigh easily accounted for Naenae’s Pat East and Wendy Mackie 23-4 preventing Naenae from continuing their sweep of Wellington women’s titles this season. This was Kay’s 11th and Leigh’s 28th Wellington titles. They earlier beat Nina De Munnik and Helen King 21-7 in the semifinal. Naenae and Victoria are now far ahead of the rest in the race for the Bowls Wellington Women’s Club of the Year title.
The Victoria men also featured in their Open Pairs with Neville Rodda and Lou Newman, and James Fairhall and Roy Gibb both reaching the quarterfinals today. James and Roy were particularly unlucky holding four shots in the last end before a wide bowl from Titahi Bay’s Logan Amer wicked into the bundle cutting the count to one.
