Victoria made the headlines in the Dominion Post this morning with the following story (unfortunately the accomanying photo is not on the dompost website):
Victoria stormed out of the blocks on the opening day of the Wellington club bowls season with a thumping win over Johnsonville on Saturday.
Victoria convincingly won all three games, with the promising Raymond Martin thrashing Wellington representative singles player Rob Ashton, 25-11, in the feature match.
The other unexpected result came at Stokes Valley, where the home team lost to Island Bay, 18-4. Elsewhere, Eastbourne proved there is life after Gary Lawson as they outclassed Hutt, 22-1, Naenae beat Wilton, 14-7, and Upper Hutt beat Silverstream, 14-7.
In the women’s section, last year’s champions Johnsonville showed they will be a force again when they hammered Island Bay, 23-0.
Lower Hutt, Victoria, Hutt and The Park Kilbirnie were other first-round winners.
