Congratulations to the Premier Men’s Interclub team who won the Bowls Wellington Centennial Challenge trophy off the previously undefeated Stokes Valley team this morning. Victoria won all three matches with an emphatic win in the pairs to Rich Corry and Ray Martin 36-11, a harder fought victory in the singles to Laurie Guy over well-performed Euan Wong 25-17, and a nail-biting icing on the cake in the fours to Alf De Munnik, Tim Toomey, Jamie Coleman and Lou Newman over Blake Signal’s team 15-14. This gave an overall interclub team win of 22-1.
It is two years since the Victoria men last held the Challenge trophy. Their first defence is home against Naenae in two weeks time. The Victoria men have not successfully defended the trophy since 2007, but although our reigns have been short-lived, we now share the record of 4 reigns with Johnsonville.
