Congratulations to Roy Gibb for reaching the final of the Wellington Open Singles over the weekend. Roy went down to Blake Signal (Stokes Valley) in a hard fought final at the Upper Hutt club on Monday 21-16 after beating Graeme Corlett (Naenae) 21-16 in the semifinal. Roy started the final well with a four on the first end but could not score again until the 9th end. He fought hard to come back but Blake was accurate on the drive to reduce dangerous counts and hold on to his lead until he could close out the match.
Feona Sayles was the best of the Victoria women reaching the semifinals before bowing out to the ever-green Judy Howat (The Park) 21-18.
After the Open Singles results, Victoria maintains a lead early on in the unofficial Wellington Club of the Year standings for the men and are second to Petone Central in the women.
