Commiserations to Kay Carr and Leigh Griffin who reached the final of the Wellington Open Pairs at the weekend at Naenae but went down to Linda Sollitt and Meryl Mackie (Hutt) 4-16. Earlier, Kay and Leigh beat another Victoria pairing Nina De Munnik and Helen King 19-18 in a semifinal cliffhanger. Nina was a replacement for Lisa White who was unavailable due to New Zealand team commitments in Auckland.
The 7 points earned pushed Victoria further in front in the race for the women’s Bowls Wellington Club of the Year competition, though that lead will significantly cut when the Wellington Pennants competition finishes which Victoria does not participate in. The men are still running second behind Stokes Valley in a close 7-horse race, with dark horse Plimmerton not far behind.
