Well done Rich & Laurie, Mark & Bazza

The 2015 New Zealand Professional Bowls Association season started off well for Victoria at Queen’s Birthday Weekend with Richard Corry reaching the final of the Scottish International Singles qualifier. Current Trans-Tasman PBA Challenge individual champion Murray Glassey (Hawkes Bay) returns to the NZ playoffs for the first time since 2012 after beating Richard in an absorbing final at the Heretaunga Club in Hastings 6-6, 8-4. After a hard-fought drawn first set, the telling end was the first of the second set where a lapse in concentration from Corry gave Glassey a four shot buffer that he was able to maintain through the rest of the set.

Rich bounced back on the Monday winning the Ranking Pairs event in Hastings with partner Laurie Guy for a third time. They beat Mark Burgess and Barry O’Brien in the final 9-2, 10-4.

Former Victoria player Stephen Zino also lost the final of the Scottish singles qualifier at the Pukekohe Cosmopolitan Club to Natarsha Grimshaw (Auckland).
