Congratulations to Jayden Ravji and Nairn MacGibbon for coming runner-up in the Wellington Easter 2-4-2 Pairs today at Island Bay. Jayden and Nairn were up most of the way in their match before going down 11-12 to Shane Duncan and Gavin McLeod (Tawa). The Victoria pair were up 11-7 after 13 of the 16 ends but were unlucky to drop a three when a Tawa drive hit a short bowl, followed through picking up the jack and trailing it to two other Tawa bowls. The Tawa pair were quite a bogey team for Victoria also beating Colvin Inglis and Jeremy Kydd, and Mark Burgess and Roy Gibb in a quarterfinal on Sunday at Wilton.
The runner-up placing did halve the gap to Stokes Valley in our unofficial count of the Wellington Men’s Club of the Year standings, with Victoria in second and Johnsonville also back in the running in third.
Our best women’s pairs were Robyn Rintoul and Nina De Munnik, and Sarah Taukamo and Helen King, both going down in the quarterfinals on Sunday at Island Bay.
