Congratulations to Laurie Guy & Neville Rodda, Victoria lads who came up trumps in the 24th Victoria Invitation Pairs. A top field as always with players attending from around the country. It was a nail biting close final vs Mike Carroll (Stokes Valley) and Lance Pascoe (Canterbury). The win is a continuation of the great form Laurie showed last year, and for Neville, he hasn’t played for over three years, but showed he still has the class.
A lot of tight ends in the final with the shot changing hands several times. Lance Pascoe played a bomb when 4 behind on the board, driving and getting the kitty in the ditch to pick up 4. On the last end, Lance & Mike were holding game until Laurie’s last bowl, an absolute stunner, which got a small feather on the way to sitting bang on the kitty.
This was Laurie’s second win of the event, his first coming back in 2003 with S. Posa. For Lance Pascoe, it was nearly his second win, having won it in 2011 with G. Lawson.
First Victoria players to win our Invitation Pairs tournament since Jayden Ravji, who won with Robbie Bird in 2015.
There’s actually only one time ever before this year it’s been won by a pure Victoria pair, in 1998 by Lou Newman and Wayne Coleman.
