Interclub Round Two

Women’s Division 1

A huge win for the Women’s Premier team as they got two wins vs long rivals Johnsonville. Just like Round 1, it was wins for the singles and pairs that got them home. This puts them into third place in the division.

Men’s Division 1

Tough times for our Men’s Premier team up on the carpet in Plimmerton. With Ray Martin away, James Fairhall stepped into the singles, but he found out how tough life can be in that position. A bonus point win by Laurie Guy and Ian McLeod was the highlight. The fours did come close in their match which could have won the tie, but in the end had to settle for a bonus point loss. After two rounds they are in fourth place.

Men’s Division 2

A bit of drama in the morning as Mark Allan who was scheduled to play singles couldn’t get over the hill from Wairarapa due to a road closure. Our thanks go to Naenae for agreeing to play the singles match at another time.

It was good news for the Victoria lads who did manage to get to Naenae though. Chris Nugent got a win in his first match back in the country from overseas, leading for Bazza in the pairs. The fours who picked up a draw in the first round, notched up their first win.

Open gendered Prems

The trip to Upper Hutt didn’t go as planned, as they lost their singles and pairs. It was a great closely fought win for the fours though.

Colvin was 0-8 down in the singles before fighting back to 12-12, then when looking like he had the momentum he fell away to lose. It was a bit of an opposite story for the pairs who were 8-1 up. This was Johanna’s first match in this grade, having played Upper Hutt for the Women’s Prems in Round 1. Unfortunately, they couldn’t hold onto their early lead though.

The fours came down to a nail-biter, with Victoria one ahead on the last end. With Upper Hutt bang on the kitty, Robert Gray, playing at 3, played a great bowl and killed the head so they could try that again. On the replayed end, Cuzzie and Ian Stevens took control and they held on for the win.
